Great plays, upsets, technical problems, and forfeits are the stories of the first day of the online Call of Duty World League.
The opening match of the season was in the Australian region- and it didn’t happen. Mindfreak ANZ forfeited their match against Orbit due to a player being a no-show for the match. Twitter chatter from Mindfreak players suggests an unnamed player fell ill before the match.
In the European competition, regional powerhouse Millenium faced Gotaga’s Team Vitality. There was some controversy when Millenium lost a round in Search and Destroy due to incorrect round timing. Millenium went on to lose the match 3-0.
In the North American region, Elevate were forced to forfeit their match due to connection issues. The team had been looking strong after a Hardpoint map win against Team Question Mark, but the match was handed to TQM after Elevate’s Nagafen was repeatedly disconnected.
On the positive side, viewer numbers for matches in the North American region hovered between 45 and 50 thousand concurrent views on Twitch.
