In a move that’s sure to be good news to anxious parents and thoughtful students alike, the American Video Game League has created a College Division of Call of Duty eSports. Much like Activision-Blizzard’s Heroes of the Dorm college competition for Heroes of the Storm, the prize pool for the AVGL College Division is in the form of academic scholarships.
All players on each team must be at least 18 year old and full time college students. The competition is open to players attending accredited colleges and universities in the United States. No ringers in this league, as current and former pro players are not allowed to compete. The teams are split into four regions, and players can only team with students who attend college/university in their region.
Registration is free, and closes on April 18th, 2016. Players can find teammates in their region by visiting AVGL’s member directory.
The season starts on April 19th, and ends with the Final Championship on May 1st.
Prize Pool Breakdown (awarded as scholarship funding)
1st Place: $2,500
2nd Place: $1,750
3rd Place: $750
