GIGABYTE Marines are the final team to qualify for the group stage of the 2017 Mid-Season Invitational, taking down SuperMassive 3 – 1. A team of relative unknowns from the Garena Pro League, GIGABYTE Marines have made their mark on MSI’s Play-In rounds in Sao Paolo, Brazil thanks to their aggressive play style and top notch team fights.
There wasn’t much hype around the team coming into the tournament, and most analysts didn’t pick the team to emerge from a Group B that included Virtus.Pro and Lyon Gaming. Marines topped the group with ease, and then shocked the world by taking Team SoloMid to five games in their Round 2 match.
Games 1 and 4 were sub-25 minute matches featuring Marines swashbuckling offense and uptempo play style. SuperMassive managed to take Game 2, but just couldn’t keep up in the third game.
